Frique London is essentially a luxury leather goods Made-To-Order private label.
Ours is not a story steeped in the annals of fashion history nor about a long and vaunted heritage; instead, it is a story of a series of random and unrelated events that sparked a latent desire - a quirk of fate one might say!
As far back as I can remember, I'd always designed things - clothing and footwear mainly. I even harboured the hope that my hobby may one day be my vocation....alas, life happened!
Then, just as now my mum remains my staunchest fan. When I told her about my Frique London idea, her exact words were: "do it BUT do it big!". She was never one for half measures or regrets - her penchant for the flamboyant and incredible eye for colours were legendary
A little over 5 years ago, on one of many mornings stuck on a train bemoaning the meaning of life, a lady sat across from me and had with her something that inexplicably caught my attention. It turned out to be her handbag.
The colour was vibrant and captivating - akin to seeing a rainbow after the rains! However, my admiration soon morphed into a critique: It was indeed a pretty handbag, but it seemed to lack that "something".
In that moment, vivid images of what the handbag could be began to form in my mind's eye. Without hesitation I whipped out my tablet and as if in a trance, began doodling my vision of the handbag.
This honestly was like nothing I had ever experienced; it felt more like a compulsion than a choice! On and on I doodled - adding new features, accessories and details.
When my "masterpiece" was finally done, I suddenly realised that the train had resumed service and I had missed my stop!
What began as a remedy for boredom quickly became an obsession - more than 675 designs later, the doodles have gotten better but haven't stopped!
